Making Dental Visits More Relaxed & Comfortable

If you get anxious about visiting the dentist, you're not alone. Even those who visit the dentist regularly can feel anxious about it.

At Trail Dental & Surgery, our goal is to help you feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible, whether you are visiting us for a standard hygiene cleaning or a more complex treatment.

If you become nervous about dental procedures, need complex treatment, have time constraints, or have a severe gag reflex, we may recommend intravenous (IV) sedation to help you get the treatment you need.

IV Sedation

Throughout his career, Dr. Cabianca has found intravenous (IV) sedation to be the most effective method for ensuring patient comfort and managing anxiety during dental procedures. In IV sedation, the medication is delivered instantly into a vein in the hand or arm, enabling the patient to gently enter a state of deep relaxation.

The medication that we use allows our dentist to precisely control the sedative effects and to continually adjust the level of sedation throughout the procedure. While under conscious sedation, patients can typically respond to questions and let Dr. Cabianca know if they are experiencing any discomfort.

Effects of Sedation

Before your procedure, we will give you specific instructions for pre- and post-operative care so that there will not be any confusion surrounding your treatment. Patients typically do not remember going through the procedure and often think that they were asleep throughout treatment.

The after effects of the medication will make you feel groggy and unsteady. You must arrange for an adult (at least 18 years of age) to drive you home. Patients should not drive a vehicle or operate dangerous machinery for at least 24 hours following IV sedation. Dr. Cabianca will call you the evening of your procedure or the morning after to check on your recovery and ensure that there are no complications.
